2×4 Pedestal

This project was done in a single day for a very important client. My wife had a grad school show coming up and needed a pedestal to display a large piece that she was working on. I have built many of the traditional white painted MDF pedestal bases for her in the past, however, this piece required the pedestal to be something more substantial and harmonious with the work she was making. The request came with little time to turn it around and the only wood I had in the shop was some spare 2x4s that were begging for a purpose. So I decided to see how much you can do with a softwood pine after cleaning it up on the joiner. This was the result.
